What is the core element of Christianity? In our confused and confusing society, is that core element variously love or the Bible or persons? Which one? And then, is that core element worth preserving? Why or why not? I also explain why many Christians like to say "Maranatha" as a kind of greeting or exclamation! Come laugh with me.
The common human tendency is to fashion God or the gods in our own image. The Bible calls that tendency idolatry. How did the ancients work idolatry? How do we today? But if we study nature, the circle of life, what does it show us about God? What, for instance, might we learn from observing bees? Or, what might we learn by studying Michelangelo's David?
Does the Bible forbid love of nation? Does the Bible forbid love of one's local culture? Is this really about nationalism or is there another agenda at work? In philosophic speak, between what two enormous focal points does the pendulum of history swing? Why? In light of the Common Good how should we think about Nationalism?
What are the biblical perspective and the Jesus perspective on wealth and riches? Is it sinful to be rich? How was wealth gained in the first century? How did the ancient Jewish world seek to span the wealth gap between the rich and poor? What was the central issue for Jesus concerning wealth? What's all that mean for today?
